TwinGeekz Artz Project Press Release

Thu Apr 27, 2006, 3:07 PM
The TwinGeekz Artz Project

For immediate release:

The fifty-second and final week of the Twin Geekz Artz Project (TGAP) will go live on the web shortly after midnight on Monday, May 1st. This weekly update will culminate a year long project in which seven New Hampshire artists working in a variety of media have submitted weekly pieces of work to be published on the group's website [link].

The project first went live on the web on May 8, 2005 with the original seven artists: musician Jim Tyrrell, photographer Celeste Tyrrell both of Campton; visual artist Michael Piper of Moultonboro, poets Robyn Piper of Moultonboro, Heather Ouellette-Cygan of Belmont, and Bobby (a New Hampshire poet working under a nom de plume); and graphic poet Bill Pelon of Meredith. They have also been joined over the year by ten other guest artistz, who have submitted occasional works from a variety of media.

From the F.A.Q.s section of twingeekz.com:
Did you get your name from that David Lynch show?
Actually, the name comes from a home movie we made about a decade ago. There are very few copies, and none are available for download. Yet. Besides, you don't really want to see it.
What is the TwinGeekz Artz Project?
It's a yearlong commitment that the TwinGeekz (and a few friends) have taken on. Each of us will be posting a piece of art in whatever medium we choose, once a week, for a year. The idea is inspired by National Novel Writing Month, SongFight, and others who share the idea that sometimes all you really need to create beautiful art is a strict deadline.

The idea for the project sprung from a trip to the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, FL. Local artist Michael Piper viewed Dali's masterworks and was inspired to create one piece of art that would take him at least one year to complete. When Piper shared his idea with musician Jim Tyrrell, Tyrrell suggested that instead of one piece of art over one year, Piper should attempt to create one piece of art a week for one year. Tyrrell agreed to do the same. Tyrrell already had the website up and was looking for a project to occupy it. The others were invited to participate and the project started.

The artists have usually remained true to their medium, but each has been challenged and inspired to cross over to others. All work included in the project is archived and can be viewed at : [link] .

They hope to host a gallery event in which they exhibit the work, both visual and oral, in the near future. They are looking for a Lakes Region venue to host the event.
